It seems that no matter how conscience parents are, we will find that even our very young children have stressful experiences which can cause pain and anxiety. We cannot always protect them but we can always encourage their awareness of the experiences which naturally bring pain and stress. We can help children to recognize and name their stressful feeling:worry, fear, hurt, sadness, exclusion, disappointment, guilt, frustration, jealousy, powerlessness, inadequacy, and embarrassment. We can help children to recognize the physical and mental signs of stress in themselves and, most importantly, we can encourage them to take control of their ability ease their own tension.Relax may be written for children but it will do its best work when adults and children use it together. It will give adults the simple, clear language to speak to young children about stress and stress relief.Yet, it is state of the art human psychology from a knowledgeable and sensitive child-development expert. The last section of the book begins, "What can you do to make yourself feel better?"It is a practical guide which is useful for human beings of all ages.It is particularly appealing to children because the relaxation exercises are presented in the form of games.

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Adult Asperger Syndrome (Guides to Individualized Evidence-Based Treatment) Review

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Adult Asperger Syndrome (Guides to Individualized Evidence-Based Treatment)

I find it hard to believe there is only one review for this book! I am an undiagnosed Aspie and I found this book to be beyond belief. OK, I haven't read the whole book and I've started about 5 others on AS. I guess it comes with the territory.
What I am saying is that if you're an Aspie and you want to see how your mind works, in words, right before your eyes then take a look at just the first 50 pages. I've had many professionals (6 - 20) try to help me with very little success, learned of AS about a year ago, and none of them can hold a candle to Valerie. I am awe-struck; she is special!

Here's How I See It--Here's How It Is Review

Here's How I See It--Here's How It Is
Average Reviews:

This book is a delightful read for 'tweens and early teens. Junebug is "almost 13" and though she adores her family's summer stock theater, she is feeling a little put upon with her list of chores and wishing (maybe) she could have a bigger part not only in the shows, but also in her parents' affections. It doesn't help that her mother has sort-of moved out and her father is making eyes at his co-star. Did I mention her father has taken on a 12-year-old theater apprentice, and expects Junebug to teach him the ropes?
What I liked best about the book: the clever fantasy/reality set up of the chapters (reflected in the title: HERE'S HOW I SEE IT/HERE'S HOW IT IS.) Junebug, Trace and the parents grapple with real problems in real ways, without being too heavy handed. The "backstage" view of theater life. The way Junebug explains theater terminology to readers who might not be as well versed. Plenty of parts to make you smile. Great (sometimes purposely fractured) lines from plays. And now, Anon, my friends. Pick up this book if you desire some fun.

When We Were Saints Review

This book was even better than I expected. I like this author and I thought the basic story line sounded interesting so I bought it. It was much a much deeper book than I anticipated and I read it from beginning to end in one sitting. I didn't want to put it down. The searching and resolution in this story is more than most people figure out in their whole lives. I think many people would benefit from reading this book, not just yound adults.

I read this with my son and we both enjoyed it.
This book tells a story about a boy who wants to become a marine biologist. When he tells people in his life what he wants to do they tell him discouraging things until he looses that spark and gives up on his dream. The book shows how he worked though the EXCUSES and followed his dream.
Maybe it's my simple mind but I sometimes feel I get just as much out of these children's book as I do the longer verson for adults.

Anthony, the Perfect Monster (Step Into Reading. Step 2 Book) Review

Anthony, the Perfect Monster (Step Into Reading. Step 2 Book)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Angelo DeCesare validates feelings real kids have by allowing his main character, Anthony, to be angry, sad, lonesome and happy - whatever the appropriate emotion is at the time.
As a reading specialist, I have read this book with elementary school children. They find Anthony to be a very engaging character. They love when he turns into a monster and goes to school. They easily relate to being teased by other students because they are different.
The book is great for initiating converstions about feelings and appropriate and unacceptable reactions to how one is feeling.

Nobody's Perfect: A Story for Children About Perfectionism Review

Nobody's Perfect: A Story for Children About Perfectionism
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Though written for young people ages 8-12 (grades 3-6), Nobody's Perfect: A Story for Children About Perfectionism is more than a storybook; it directly addresses a very common psychological problem among both kids and adults - the compulsion to be perfect. Young Sally Sanders feels like a failure if she can't be the best; as a result she procrastinates, avoids new experiences, and relentlessly compares herself to other. Her teachers and mother try to help her overcome her inferiority complex, and she gradually learns the fun of relaxing and trying out new things without worrying so much about being the best. "Sally was surprised to hear her mom say that it was important to work hard and have fun... 'But I might not be any good at soccer,' Sally added. It was the real reason she didn't sign up. She felt embarrassed to admit that she might not be good at something... 'That's okay,' Mrs. Sanders assured her. 'Imagine all the fun you'll miss if you let that stop you.'" The thoughtful handling of an important real-life issue makes Nobody's Perfect highly recommended, and an absolute must-have for children's grade school and public library collections. Nobody's Perfect is also available in a paperback edition.

I fell in love with Lori Lite's books from the first time I saw them. They were exactly what I had been searching for since I began conducting psychotherapy with children. Teaching children visualization and relaxation techniques has often been a difficult feat until I began using books such as Bubble Riding and CDs such as Indigo Dreams, both Lori Lite creations. This book in particular has been integral in my treatment of anxiety related to sleep and overcoming other nighttime fears. It has also helped with school and social anxiety and pain management. I recommend all of her books and CD's very highly! -Summer Sullivan, Ph.D.

This wonderful book by Lori Lite offers children the chance to learn relaxation skills and a postive psychological outlook like no other work I am aware of. The beautiful illustrations and engaging dialogue surpass any other resources I have come across in my field of psychology. I look forward to utilizing this book and Lori's other products in my practice. A trial run with my own children was effective and left them asking for more.
