Pig Enough Review

Pig Enough

I am a huge fan of Bynum's books and this, her latest is no exception! It's fun and funny and gave me the warm fuzzies.
Willy is an adorable Guinea Pig who wants to join the Pig Scouts. All the oinkers tell him he isn't pig enough to be real Pig Scout but little Willy proves them all wrong on a Pig Scout outing.
Adults and children both will enjoy the humorous scenes of Willy trying on his Pig Scout uniform and attempting piggy activities.
A perfect picture book that is pig enough for all!

When I Feel Good about Myself (Way I Feel) Review

When I Feel Good about Myself (Way I Feel)

My five year old daughter was having a problem with trying to be a perfectionist. It was making her extremely anxious. This book sends the right message that nobody has to be perfect. As soon as I read this book to her, she loved it and has wanted to take it to bed with her every night. Whenever she wants to read to herself, I see her grab this book. It's hard to find a book for a preschooler that sends this message so that kids can understand it. I think this book would also be good for preschool aged child that does not have a good self-image.

Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon Review

Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Molly Lou Melon is the shortest girl in the first grade, has buck teeth that stick out so far she can stack pennies on them and has a voice like a bull frog squeezed by a boa constrictor. But she also has a very wise Grandma who has always told her to walk proudly, smile big, sing out loud and clear and "Believe in yourself and the world will believe in you too!" Unfortunately, her family moves away from Grandma and now Molly Lou Melon has to go to first grade in a new school. And on her first day she meets Ronald Durkin, class bully. He calls her shrimpo and bucky-tooth-beaver and follows her around calling out honk-honk and making fun of her schoolwork. But Molly Lou remembers everything her Grandma told her and soon Ronald Durkin is put firmly in his place..... Patty Lovell has written an uplifting and engaging picture book with a gentle message that won't be lost on young readers. Her simple, yet powerful text is complemented by David Catrow's bold, bright and joyous artwork and together they've authored a terrific story that's summed up on the book's last page, in Molly Lou's letter to her Grandma..."Everything you told me was exactly right." Perfect for youngsters 4-8, Stand Tall Molly Lou Melon is a treasure you'll want to read and share, told with great insight, wisdom and humor.

Hooray for You A Celebration of You-ness Review

Hooray for You A Celebration of You-ness

I love this book! I bought it today for my daughter who just entered Kindergarten. She recently got glasses and now wears an eye patch and I wanted a book to help her find the wonderment in her, even if she gets teased and feels sad about herself. The book is a bit over her head (it's meant for grades 3-6,)but she and my 3 year old loved the rhymes and illustrations and I think the point of "you-ness" was wonderful! A few rhymes were awkward but overall it had a nice writing style and content. A must for any child, especially an extra special one dealing with extra special situations! Buy it!

Trouble Talk Review

Trouble Talk
Average Reviews:

This is one of the best books for children I've ever read. Trouble Talk tackles, so well, so completely, the REAL social problems that kids have to deal with - the rumors, the difficult friendships, difficult relationships, forgiveness, lies, trust...and the story is told so realistically. I could clearly hear all of the characters' voices in my head! This book would be perfect for a teacher to read to her students. I think it would spark such wonderful discussions about the above listed topics. Kids can learn so much from this book, and from each other, if only we talk about these subjects as Trudy Ludwig so beautifully did.

Wow It Sure is Good to Be You Review

Wow It Sure is Good to Be You
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a beautiful and touching book about loving someone when you're not together. The text is poetic, with staggered rhymes. "Somebody, somewhere, is thinking about you,
Keeps your picture in their pocket,
Misses your kisses,
Loves you more than birds love trees,
more than brothers love to tease,
loves you even more than dogs have fleas,
and that's a lot too!
Loving you is their favorite thing to do.
Wow! It sure is good to be you!
And these sweet words are accompanied by fun, lively illustrations of a little girl going about her life while getting support from afar. I love the "Girl Power" crown on the kid's head. I love that she is a person of color. I love the picture of her acting out in her house. I love the aunt's/friend's/cool grandmother's hip bell-bottom pants. A wonderful book to share with the princess/rock star/cool girl in your life.

Incredible You 10 Ways to let your greatness shine through Review

Incredible You 10 Ways to let your greatness shine through
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
"It is my desire to have these tiny precious souls-so many of whom have brought so much joy into my life as they listened to my stories-close this book and feel so good about themselves that they feel in their hearts that nothing is impossible for them. It would be even more thrilling for me if this becomes the book they choose each night...so that a special person-like you-can read it to them over and over again." - From the introduction
Renowned author Wayne Dyer has distilled his 10 Secrets for Success and Inner Peace into a children's book titled Incredible You! 10 Ways to Let Your Greatness Shine Through. Co-written with Kristina Tracy and illustrated by Melanie Siegel, this colorful uplifting book affirms and encourages children to imagine, explore, and expect beauty in all its forms.
The 10 Ways to Let Your Greatness Shine Through are:
1. Share the Good
2. Find What You Love
3. You are Filled with Love
4. Find a Quiet Place Inside
5. Make Today Great!
6. Change Your Thoughts to Good
7. Take Care of Yourself
8. Picture What You Want
9. Everyone Is Special, Especially You
10. Good Thoughts Give You Energy
This wonderful book isn't saccharine "just think happy thoughts". Dyer addresses challenges such as ridicule. Under #7 Take Care of Yourself it says:
"If something or someone makes you feel bad,
don't let it ruin your day by making you sad.
Let go of the hurt and take care of you.
You can't control what others say or do."
The first picture shows two girls whispering and laughing at a third girl, while the second picture shows the girl happily playing in her room as the other two look through the window. She has chosen to play with her toys and enjoy herself-by herself.
Incredible You! contains sage advice for both children and adults. At the end of the book are ten questions designed to encourage children to ponder the ideas presented therein. For example, one question is "It's important to make time for the things you love. Do you have a passion? Something you love to do more than anything else?"
My son answers "play with trains!" to this one. He really enjoyed it when I read the story to him and asked him the questions in the back. In fact, I had this book among a pile of others that I was going to review. He purposefully walked over the stack one day and removed this book so he could look at it on his own! I've reviewed quite a few children's books and he's never done this before. So my 7 year old gives Incredible You! an enthusiastic thumbs up, as does his Mom!

Dr Wayne W. Dyer has taken then 10 concepts from his book for adults "10 Secrets for Success & Inner Peace" and interpreted them for children, creating "Incredible You"! Wayne believes that it's never too early for children to know that they're unique and powerful beings, and they have everything they need within themselves to create happy, successful lives. With this book, parents can introduce these important ideas to their children. The ten concepts are numbered, titled and set in rhyming verse, and vibrant illustrations bring each point to life. At the end, there are questions that kids can answer to connect these ideas to their own lives, and make them realize how incredible they truly are.
