The book, "I'm So Mad!" tells the story of a trip to the store, through the eyes of a young child. The child goes through different emotions while picking out items with her mother. Shopping can be a fun experience, or it can make a young child angry and disruptive if they don't get their way. In this story, the little girl cannot buy ice cream when she wants...that made her very mad. It also made her mother mad, but their frustration turned to smiles after the young child accidentally knocks down a pile of oranges. They both share an emotional moment and clean up the mess together.
MyParenTime.com highly recommends this book for young children -- they'll enjoy the descriptive and colorful illustrations, and beginning readers will appreciate the easy-to-read text. This book is part of a new series of picture books called, "Just Being Me," which gives a child's-eye view of a child's everyday challenges, triumphs and experiences. Young children are sure to relate to the child in this story. Parents can use this book to help their children better understand their emotions, and explain how to best deal with angry feelings and not being able to get what they want when they want it. In addition, the story is the perfect length for very young children.

Slippery Willie's Stupid, Ugly Shoes Review

(More customer reviews)Larry Peterson has accomplished many feats in this his first children's book: he has provided an entertaining and clever story that will definitely entertain youngsters, illustrated the book with absolutely first-class drawings, and has delivered a message much needed in the education of children (and parents alike!) - to learn to accept differences in others and in ourselves.
Willie Wiggins has an odd way of ambulating - he has slippery feet that cause him to slip and slide around, unable to climb tress or perform in other forms of play. He hates his slippery feet, and so does his mother and he is the laughing stock of his friends because he slips around instead of walking or running. His mother takes the matter in hand and has special shoes that will prevent Willie from sliding around. Problem? Willie hates the "stupidest, ugliest shoes in the whole world."
When Willie steps into his ugly stupid corrective shoes even his mother laughs at him as do all of his friends at school, making Willie miserable - until Willie wakes up from his dream and realizes he hasn't worn the new shoes yet! When he indeed puts on the shoes not only can he walk normally but he also becomes the envy of his friends for the fabulous new shoes he wears!
Peterson's story flows so well and is so well married to the illustrations that the book is at once engrossing and entertaining as well as being sophisticated. Caldecott and Newbery Awards alert! The only aspect of the book that in a way takes it from the intended reader is the added instructions at the end - well meant ways of listing things that are different in us and in other people and how to deal with these differences. It is one of those examples of overkill as the book is so beautifully done that adding the workbook or study guide at the end feels tacked on and extraneous and because the story and presentation itself makes such a finely honed point: it comes close to dumbing down the reader.
Final diagnosis? Excellent book by a fine new author/illustrator. Hopefully many more books will come from Larry Peterson and Tribute Books. Grady Harp, January 11

I also thank the author for including into the story how important it is for the child to talk about the dreams during the day with adults. This book was exactly what I was hoping for ! Things that Make You Feel Good Review

(More customer reviews)I love Todd Parr's animated illustrations and charm. But after purchasing this book and reading it to my 2-year old, I wasn't as excited about this particular book. The labels "good" and "bad" are used in a way that it introduces ideas into a young child's mind. Like some of the examples were "good:light", "bad: the dark". I am trying to teach my daughter NOT to think of the dark as something bad and not to be afraid of! So that's not too helpful. Also, it has "monsters: bad" as well as "big hairy spiders: bad". We're trying to convince my daughter that monsters don't exist, not that they are "bad" and make her scared even more. The other labels in the book are funny, like "smelly feet: bad" and "hot chocolate with marshmallows: good".
I know Todd Parr just wanted to write a funny book for kids. But if your children are at the stage where they are scared of things or take things very literally, then you might want to choose a different book!
