Someday Angeline Review

I loved how Louis Sacher described Angeline's personality and life. I thought it was sweet that she could be anything from a layer to president, but she wanted to be a gar bage person like her father. I have read Wayside school books, but this was THE funniest of them all! I felt sorry for Angeline because she was laughed at for doing things that came natural to 8 year olds. Like, for example, sucking her thumb and being very emotional about every thing. I agree with Miss Turbone (a.k.a. Mr.Bone) when she said that if she had Mrs. Hardlick as a teacher, she'd go to the aquarium too. I rejoyced when Mellisa Turbone fell in love with Abel. Angeline deserved a mother. In my heart I know that they got married. I got worried when Angeline fell in the ocean and almost drowned. But, it WAS funny when she awoke in the hospital room to a joke. If I was Goon (Gary) I would have probably fainted when she said "What?". I loved this book with all of my heart. It is my third favorite book ever!! My first favorite is The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe. Look for my review on it! READ SOMEDAY ANGELINE!!!!!!

Nonsense He Yelled Review

OK, I am confused. Do the "professional" reviewers not have kids? My daughter loved this book. We read it often (no offense to the author, I can't read any book every night and stay sane). She loves the rhymes and then we of course start a silly game where we have to make up a rhyme with her or her friends names. This is truely my only complaint. Have you ever tried to rhyme Jessica or Jacqueline!? Anyway, this book is a great vehicle for immagination. My daughters kindergarden class all made up rhymes for their names because of it. I really think the reviewers are out of touch with what kids like. Of course, how many times have you seen a movie that you and everyone you know loved, but the critics hated. Anyway, trust the kids, the book is great!

What a wonderful book! I loved Mr. Marino's characters. I think everyone on some level can identify with Tristan. And for those rare individuals who are Kellys and/or Marcos, perhaps they could learn something!
Even though this book is recommended for young adult readers, I don't think there's anyone who wouldn't benefit from reading it. What great lessons in understanding, compassion, empathy and tolerance.
I look forward to more of Mr. Marino's work!

Camille McPhee Fell Under the Bus ... Review

Camille McPhee Fell Under the Bus ...

I always give my friend's daughters some girl protaganist books for Christmas, and I checked this book out at the library as a "maybe". The girl on the cover looked a good bit fancier than the scrappy types I usually gravitate toward. Well, Camille McPhee is quirky and Heelarious. When she started doing her super powered scissor kick before getting out of bed to get her blood moving I was pretty much hooked. After reading a chapter and a half, I convinced my 10 year old son to listen to me read it out loud. He didn't want me to stop. I really would recommend this book to just about anybody. It's not a girly girl book at all, and although the writing is probably 4th or 5th grade level I would easily recommend it to my adult friends.

Fair: just, equitable, what is right.Unfair: the life of Camille McPhee.Imagine being Camille McPhee. She has low blood sugar, so she carries extra food in a cooler. Would you want to do that?Didn't think so.And you wouldn't want to fall under the school bus. That happened to Camille, too!Her cat, Checkers, is lost. And her best friend, Sally, moved to Japan. It would be hard to stay optimistic, right? But Camille is what her mom calls hopeful. Because really? There are plenty of things to be positive about: gifted reading, a nonsqueaky mattress, eating banned foods, the big blue butterfly.Even making a new friend. Imagine that!

It's Not Fair Review

It's Not Fair

One morning recently I was reading the newspaper when I heard my wife and 10-year-old son laughing. I thought they were reading a story from the paper together. Instead they were paging through 'It's Not Fair', flipping back and forth through the pages. So while it may be a book for younger children, I can attest to the fact that anyone of any age can enjoy it. Great message, fun book, from the prolific and always entertaining Tom Lichtenheld, and the equally talented Amy Krouse Rosenthal.

Why'd I get the smaller half? Why don't you yell at her? Why does my team always lose? Why can't we have a pet giraffe? Because that's life.

And life can't always go the way we want it to. But with this delightful and witty book, Amy Krouse Rosenthal and Tom Lichtenheld reassure us that everyone, including pigs, planets, and square pegs, sometimes thinks: It's not fair!

I saved this book for my vacation in a family cottage where many family reunions have taken place. Everyone can relate to this book and how the character Emma felt. I thought of my nieces who are just this age and remembered back to that those "middle" years of school. It's funny, a perfectly delicious read no matter what your age!
