In this book a familiar character returns in Billy Baggs. He has discovered his great skill in baseball however he can't play on the city team. Together he and his mom decide to make flyers and bring kids in from around the countryside. For one night kids can play baseball with each other for fun. On one of theses nights the coach from the town team comes over and Billy challenges the town team to a game. Using skill and ability the town team is defeated by Billy's squad of country players. I enjoyed reading this novel and certainly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a good sports novel.

Beyond Lucky Review

Beyond Lucky was fun, inspiring, and engaging. I don't read a lot of children's or "middle-grade" novels, but this one was definitely worth it! I was captivated by the main character's quirks and interaction with others. The characters make me feel like I'm a fly on the wall in a middle school watching the drama unfold. I could see boys and girls of all ages, whether then typically enjoy reading or not, staying up to finish just one more chapter. Ms Sarah Aronson's writing and story telling ability was beyond what is expected from children's books.

Ari Fish believes in two things: his hero-Wayne Timcoe, the greatest soccer goalie to ever come out of Somerset Valley-and luck. So when Ari finds a rare and valuable Wayne Timcoe trading card, he's sure his luck has changed for the better. Especially when he's picked to be the starting goalie on his team. But when the card is stolen-and his best friend and the new girl on the team accuse each other of taking it-suddenly Ari can't save a goal, everyone is fighting, and he doesn't know who, or what, to believe in. Before the team falls apart, Ari must learn how to make his own luck, and figure out what it truly means to be a hero.

Bad Girls Club Review

I didn't want to read this book. I was compelled to read it. It is a disturbing and meticulously accurate portrait of what goes on behind the closed doors of the ultimate dysfunctional family. Ms. Gregerson brings us into the world of Destiny, a young teenage girl who bears the whole world on her shoulders. While she appears to be the only still-sane member of this family, as the book goes on you can see her slipping slowly away. While this may be a work of fiction, it is all too true for many families. Reading this raw and painful account, I felt both helpless and determined. What is there to do amidst such hopelessness and despair? And yet, we should be ever vigilant for throwaway kids such as Destiny - to step up and be that person who says "you're not disposable", "you do matter", "you are loveable", and "you're not alone."
This is a very powerful book, not for the faint of heart.
