This, the second edition, is one of the best practice books in social work to come out in a long time. Using a multifocal vision, this book spells out the principles of empowerment as a method. This is the kind of book that makes you want to know the author personally because of the human touch that is provided; this book is very readable too.The subtitle--Building the Beloved--speaks for itself. I appreciated the up-to-date references and statistics. An excellent reference book for instructors and social workers interested in the empowerment approach.

I had this book when I was little and I used to beg my mom to read it to me over and over. I loved it. It got me interested in science and research. It is at least partially due to this book that I entered college as a biology major. Highly recommended- I wish it was still in print.
