The Practically Perfect Pajamas Review

This author's first book is perfect for reading aloud to children of all ages. My 4 year old loves it as much as my 9 year old. The illustrations are so captivating that a nonreader will enjoy 'reading' this book as much as a reader. The plot is creative and entertaining. Its gentle message is a lesson everyone needs to learn.
We heard that one of the pajamas pictured in the book actually belongs to the author's wife. Which pair do you think are hers? We'll never tell!
Message to the author; more Percy stories please.
You will enjoy this book, we did !

Black Box Review

I will start off this review with one word "WOW".
The story of Dora and Elena two sisters who are as close as can be - when the older Dora starts changing - she is sleeping too much, no longer eating and is becoming less and less like herself every day. Eventually, she is diagnosed with a mental illness.
This is the story of how mental illness (depression) affects absolutely everyone it touches.
Elena finds herself having to deal with the fact that her beloved sister is no longer the person she use to be. Elena is heartbroken and scared. Her parents are arguing all the time and somehow most of their friends are now staying away - far away.
It is almost impossible for Elena to deal with it all - as she finds herself going to extremes in order to make everyone "be okay again".
This novel (its very, very short at a little under 180 pages) is extremely touching and sad, which is to say that the author takes a very honest and real view at an illness that for some reason still appears to be taboo.
I love the title of this book - indeed mental depression certainly makes everyone feel as though they are living in a box -
I highly recommend this book to anyone who believes it will never happen to them.

Would I Ever Lie to You? Review

Would I Ever Lie to You
Average Reviews:

Caralyn Buehner and Jack Davis did such a fantastic job with this book that it left both my children (ages 4 and 5)and myself rolling with laughter by the end! The narrator pretty much explains his dilemma of never knowing when his ornery older cousin is telling the truth, or just teasing him. The older cousin starts out by begging the narrator (whose name is never revealed) not to eat his piece of pie because it could be poisonous and he could die. The narrator states, "A poison pie? Could it be true? With Cousin Ed you never knew." The narrator proceeds to explain to the reader (with various hilarious examples) why he never knew. By the end, the gullible narrator has grown a bit wiser and manages to get the last laugh!
Anyone out there with an ornery relative can most likely relate to this book! The illustrations are just as comical as the story line. This is definitely one of my kids' favorites. My four year old has it memorized. This is the first Caralyn Buehner book we have ever read, but it will certainly not be the last!

When your cousin is always telling outrageous tales, how do you know what to believe? He says you were hatched from an egg in the garden, and that sure sounds absurd. But not all of his stories are false: He was right about your aunt Mary not having teeth; and Dad agreed with him that, yes, your mom does have eyes in the back of her head! So when Ed tells you that your dessert—the piece of pie you've been looking forward to all meal long—is full of poison, what should you do?
In this spirited, silly book, the little kid finally gets to turn the tables on the big bully. And revenge is sweet as pie!

Baby Review

Baby

It's Baby's last chance with foster parents before she's shipped off to a juvenile detention center.
Baby may believe that meeting Bobby is the best thing that ever happened to her. But it happens when Baby's finally at a wonderful place in her life, and Bobby starts to take her away from it all.
Under Bobby's influence, Baby will do just about anything, even take her foster parents, Mary and Fred's, most prized possession -- a sled dog. Her life is spiraling out of control, and drug dealings and addictions eventually lead Bobby straight behind bars.
Baby is once again abandoned, this time with nothing but a pack of cigarettes to her name.
What path is Baby going to take? Her new life of safety, or a life of running and sleeping on the streets, using drugs?
BABY tells a great story of real life adventure. I recommend it to everyone, especially those who are interested in stories dealing with important "What if?" issues.

John Wilson is the master at writing historical fiction for young adults. "And in the Morning" is no exception. The voice of the character is perfect. So are the details of World War One. And the story is heart-wrenching.

Daffodil, Crocodile Review

Daffodil, Crocodile
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is the second book in Emily Jenkins' delightful series about a headstrong young girl named Daffodil, who asserts her own individuality and resists being typecast as a "good girl" or lumped in along with her identical triplet sisters, Violet and Rose. If you liked the first book, "Daffodil," you'll love this one, too. (ReadThatAgain book reviews)
