(More customer reviews)I read the book The Crayon Box That Talked to my 2nd Grade students. We all thought that the book was super! We talked about the differences in each other and the students each told another student something they liked about them. The students felt good about themselves and each other! This was a great book to start off our Peace Unit. As a diverse staff, we gave this book as a gift to our principal with simple messages of how we complement each other and as a staff we make a complete picture because of our uniqueness! Ten Big Toes and a Prince's Nose Review

(More customer reviews)The inside flap of the dust jacket declares that "Ten Big Toes and a Prince's Nose" is "[f]illed with whimsical surprises and lush illustrations...." I whole-heartedly agree with the description of the illustrations as "lush", but there really isn't anything surprising in the book. It is a sweet tale of romance between two young people who don't fit the conventional image of royal perfection, yet who are nonetheless pure of heart and deserving of a love which sees through the superficial.
Like most fairytales, this book holds A Message, which Message is rather more bluntly presented (and sweetly uplifting) than usual: it is what is on the inside that counts. Nonetheless, the Message is presented in a child-friendly way that kids will find enjoyable rather than preachy. Kids will likely giggle at the Princess's enormous feet and the Prince's honking schnozz, but they will also sympathize with them for being laughed at by others. That the two should get together is the most natural and obvious thing in the world and kids will cheer for the happy ending.
Nancy Gow's metered rhymes get somewhat grating to the adult ear, but they are appropriate for the light-hearted fairytale setting. The story is richly complemented by Stephen Costanza's brilliantly colored yet soft and gentle illustrations. All-in-all a charming "happily ever after" to brighten up a gloomy world.

(More customer reviews)I fell in love with Lori Lite's books from the first time I saw them. They were exactly what I had been searching for since I began conducting psychotherapy with children. Teaching children visualization and relaxation techniques has often been a difficult feat until I began using books such as Bubble Riding and CDs such as Indigo Dreams, both Lori Lite creations. This book in particular has been integral in my treatment of anxiety related to sleep and overcoming other nighttime fears. It has also helped with school and social anxiety and pain management. I recommend all of her books and CD's very highly! -Summer Sullivan, Ph.D.

Being Teddy Roosevelt Review

(More customer reviews)Since I work as a children's librarian, I see plenty of kids coming in for homework on "being" a historical character--so I know this book is very real! As often as not, they have no idea who they are going to portray but end up enjoying the assignment.
A wonderful thing about this book is the many plotlines woven into its 90 pages: Will Riley get his sax? Will this or that kid succeed in the assignment? Will the overachiever triumph this time, too?
The author has a good ear for kid dialogue and a good sense of pacing. All in all an enjoyable book, and at just under a hundred pages long enough for book reports.

Bully Review

(More customer reviews)This is a great book to help children who are experiencing bullying problems. First, by acknowledging how painful it can be to be bullied, secondly, by helping kids find ways to work through bullying problems, and last, by helping kids understand why kids are bullies to begin with. If you have a child who is plagued with problems arising from bullies, I would recommend this book, which is sure to encourage dialogue and problem solving discussions.
