Pig Enough Review

Pig Enough

I am a huge fan of Bynum's books and this, her latest is no exception! It's fun and funny and gave me the warm fuzzies.
Willy is an adorable Guinea Pig who wants to join the Pig Scouts. All the oinkers tell him he isn't pig enough to be real Pig Scout but little Willy proves them all wrong on a Pig Scout outing.
Adults and children both will enjoy the humorous scenes of Willy trying on his Pig Scout uniform and attempting piggy activities.
A perfect picture book that is pig enough for all!

My son received all the books in this series for Christmas. He loved them so much. I searched for the right book to give him for a few months, and I am so glad I picked these. He really seemed to connect with them. I think he is so used to everything being so formal when it comes to myself and his teachers talking about the way he learns. These are the first books that took him to a place all to himself, a place where he could connect as a kid. I love these books, and if you have a child with a different learning style these are the books for them!

You would have thought that telling my child over and over (and over!)again that other children, and me his mother, have the same struggles with learning math would have made him feel a little less alone in the 3rd grade math world, but it didn't. A parent can only tell a child that everyone learns differently so much. After my son read this book he finally believed me! We talked about how I was when I was a child and how I even have struggle now. Reading this book has opened up this connection with my son that i never thought possible. He saw himself in this book; he made connections that finally turned the switch on for him. Thank you Barb for thinking of our children and creating these great books!

Braless in Wonderland Review

Braless in Wonderland
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Did you know that models practice smiling with their tongue behind their teeth to hide the dreaded black space? It's something that Allee Rosen would never have thought of as she stuffed rolls of toilet paper into her backpack for her art project.
Allee's headed to Yale to be an English Literature major. Yale! Or so she thought. She finds out her rocket scientist dad failed to save enough money for the prestigious school. So, for now, she's finishing her senior year of high school, working at Wal-Mart, and trying to decide whether or not to give in to her dad and go the University of Florida to major in something sensible, like science or business. Yuck.
Her life changes the day she takes her sister, Sabrina, to the mall for a modeling agency's talent search. Instead of signing Sabrina, aka "The Fluff," they want Allee! The brainiac. The feminist. The total opposite of a girly-girl. Allee knows this is crazy. She doubts it's even legit. But it's an offer she can't refuse. It could mean earning the extra money to get to Yale.
Following a dream-like trip to Miami to meet the owner of what turns out to be a highly respectable and sought-after agency, Allee moves into an apartment for the models. Allee finds herself struggling to believe that she's actually pretty. Serious by nature, she fears she'll never be able to let loose and have fun with the camera. Will she ever get a booking? How can she compete with the beautiful, intimidating, and fiercely competitive girls she's rooming with? What the heck are chicken cutlets? And what if she makes it big? Will she choose to leave Wonderland behind and go to Yale in the fall?
BRALESS IN WONDERLAND thrusts the reader into the world of modeling. Debbie Reed Fischer zooms in to focus on the often cutthroat competition between models, the necessary obsession with weight and the risks some models will take to lose just a few more pounds, the glamour, the parties, and the clothes. Oh, the clothes! If you are even the tiniest bit interested in a modeling career, I'd suggest you pick up a copy of this book. And for those of you who think you'd never consider being a model? Just remember, neither did Allee.

This is a great book to help children who are experiencing bullying problems. First, by acknowledging how painful it can be to be bullied, secondly, by helping kids find ways to work through bullying problems, and last, by helping kids understand why kids are bullies to begin with. If you have a child who is plagued with problems arising from bullies, I would recommend this book, which is sure to encourage dialogue and problem solving discussions.

"I Want Your Moo: A Story for Children About Self-Esteem" is a picturebook about Toodles the turkey who hates many things about herself, but most of all she hates her gobble. She tries to persuade many other animals to give her their special sounds, but they either say "no" or the transfer just doesn't work out. Finally one day Toodles learns that her gobble has a very valuable application: it scares a hawk away from the little chicks! As the wise owl Omar said to her, "Your sound is yours. It is you. You have just the right sound, like I have my whoo." "I Want Your Moo" is aimed at children age 3 and up, and is a great tool to help parents and children bolster self esteem in kids.

TAKING RESPONSIBILITY : Self Reliance and the Accountable Life Review

TAKING RESPONSIBILITY : Self Reliance and the Accountable Life
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The word "responsibility" carries an unfortunate moralistic implication, which Branden takes pains to dispel repeatedly throughout this book. Nevertheless, a light reading of this important work may create a false impression in the reader that Branden's term "Self-Responsibility" does in fact mean a moralistic responsibility. This is the major problem that haunts this work.
Even with this flaw, this is one of Branden's more important books. It is brilliant and profound. It is a book to read and re-read at regular intervals throughout one's life. Two of the most important chapters are "Self Reliance and Social Metaphysics" and "Self-Responsibility and Romantic Love". Both of these themes appeared in his earlier "The Psychology of Self-Esteem". In particular the concept of social metaphysics is one of the most vital to understand in attempting to gain true psychological freedom and intellectual sovereignty. In my own case, had I just taken the time to understand how social metaphysics was impacting my decision to seek a divorce, I might been able to save my marriage.
The Introduction to this book is by itself almost worth the price of the entire book. It contains indispensible advice for finding true happiness in life. It also shows Brandon's essential modesty, as he credits his wife for these important insights.

I'm Gonna Like Me: Letting Off a Little Self-Esteem Review

I'm Gonna Like Me: Letting Off a Little Self-Esteem
Average Reviews:

It is rare that a book comes along that all children will love. I say love all children because we have wee ones who are hearing or sight impaired and its nice to see a book that these children as well as able bodied children can enjoy. For the hearing impaired child the illustration will bring the book to life. While the sight impaired child will find the words "illustrate" the book.
And for the rest of us the combination is a sure winner. And its not a sappy feel good self esteem book but more along the lines of we are all human and fall down, and feel we don't fit in at times, but it is in keeping trying that is what make life work. And its a book that will appeal to boys and girls, males and females. And lest you think it is only for wee ones, its also a good book for teens, college kids, those going thru lifes many passages. Or for someone who is going thru a rough period in their lives.
As a rule I avoid celebrity books like the plague, but Ms Curtis is a true talent.

I wish this book was around when I was a kid. In a conversational manner, this author communicates specific tools that kids can use to feel better about themselves and about how they relate to others. There are also examples of how kids have already addressed issues of confidence and self-esteem. It is a book that parents and kids may even want to read together to discuss the key points.
