Don Goewey does a great job translating scientific findings into an easy-to-use program that works, no matter who you are or what you do. All the tools and techniques he teaches in this book are great, and the "Clear Button" was a real family saver for me. Whether its the end of the day or the end of the week, in a matter of seconds I can now take all my business concerns and endless chatter I have in my head and turn it off. When Dad is home, dad is home. Now, not only can I enjoy my time away from the office but the time I have at home so much more.

In my opinion, The Secret to Life Transformation does not fulfill its promise of delivering the secret to life transformation. For that matter I do not believe it offers any real new insights into life transformation.
The book is actually a collection of essays by 12 very diverse but somewhat famous people. Most of the authors were well known in their field but certainly not household names.
Because the book is a collection of writings by different authors, it does not have a consistent voice. The lessons presented in each essay do not drive toward a common method for transformation. The theme is very loosely connected. While each attempts to tell how they transformed their lives, there is no system or step by step process for others to follow. There are some nuggets of wisdom scattered throughout the book.
Some of the essays are fairly interesting. It is always interesting to learn how a person rose to the top against some steep odds. But what I was looking more for guiding principles rather than the widely varied stories.
A high percentage of the stories have a significant religious foundation. Some people may object to the strong religious leanings.
Judge Sol Wachter takes a bit of a detour discussing the criminal justice system's handing of mentally disturbed inmates. While there is no denying the huge social problem and the fact that it is inadequately handled, I felt this veered off course. It created a distraction rather than giving additional insight into how to transform one's life.
If you are interested in reading 12 loosely connected stories of how some people rose from very difficult conditions to transform their lives, then this would be a good book. On the other hand, if you are looking for a how-to guide to transforming your own live, this will probably be a bit of a disappointment.

I have been a fan of Ms. Ryan's for some time now. Her writings on kindness have been quite influential on the values I cherish and how I aspire to live my life. In her new book, "Trusting Yourself", she addresses what I believe is an epidemic in our "future shock" culture - people feeling overwhelmed, perfectionistic, self-doubting, defective, and dependent on experts to tell us how to live. Reading her (as usual) insightful and empathic words, I have come back to my senses and to my inherent common sense. A much-needed balm for our frantic psyches in these challenging times. Highly recommended reading for anyone who's wavered in their faith in their own abilities and passions!

For economic reasons, I practice self help whenever I can, so self-help books appeal to me. I have lots of them, but not often do I read a book like Three Minute Therapy which began to help me from the first chapter. Reasonable thinking lies at the heart of this therapy. The simplicity of the author's technique fit right into my busy life in that I did not have to wait weeks or till midway the book to comprehend Dr. Edelstein's technique or start getting obvious results.I have compulsive shopping and anxiety, family disputes and job tensions. I started using Dr. Edelstein's simple, down to earth, rational therapy and already become aware of positive improvements in my life. I talk to my mother more affectionately now thanks to this book because I learned to accept her and not require she become my ideal. I find my work more enjoyable because of changed expectations and reduced anxiety about having to be perfect. I find play more fun, and started again on creating an office manual, now that I understand it need not be the ultimate, most perfect one. I like the new feelings I am still obtaining from this book.Socially, I feel less of a need to have absolute approval from friends, and this freedom has given me a great deal of comfort. I say feeling because my new reasonable thinking actually has benefited my emotions. These improvements I am sure came from contact with this Three Minute Therapy book. I love this book! Eve Belkin's world gets turned upside down when her dad gets fired and her family has to move. Her dad has been avising her to turn over a new leaf, because he thinks his daughter shouldn't be tomboy. Eve admits she has always hated that saying, but she is tired of being lonely and friendless so she takes her dad's advice. While she makes some "friends" she is still unhappy because she can't be herself. Eventully her lies become untnagled, and she finds out all she needs is herself and sowhat if she's friendless? But in the end our Eve finds frienship and herself.

I came to Amazon to order a few extra copies for friends and would-be-better friends and was surprised to see (so far) only one review for this book. I, too, snapped it up cheap, not at all sure of the quality or VALUE, but I think that Bucay's book is well worth full retail.
Bucay is Argentinian, and this is his first book translated into English for a North American publisher and audience. But the good doctor is renowed in Spanish-speaking countries around the world.
Yes, he gets off to a bit of a disjointed start, with a patched together string of parables that seem sort of quaint and "foreign" (even causing me to conjure that first and greatest of Spanish "QUEST" characters, Don Quixote, but this little book really gets into some fine insights useful in the here and NOW. This is - Bucay is - a WISE GUY, and I say that in the positive sense. His folksy manner may, for some, betray the real rewards and subtle weight of his work, but that, I think, becomes MORE charming as the books progresses. MORE, not less, so give it a few chapters to warm up - and for you to warm to Bucay's rhetorical style. Then, the rest of this efficient and alluring book will be WELL worthwhile.
Bucay helps us consider what our freedoms are, what our responsibilities are (and aren't), and HOW we can come to terms (in simple though not terms) with reconciling our lives with the familial, social and cultural trappings, baggage and conventional "be like us/be a winner") BS around us. Any time an author can say accessible things about that, with some old-fashioned parables, straightforward language and some real insight and wisdom WITHOUT JARGON is just about ALWAYS worth the cover price.
Bucay shows much more humility and grace than most Type-A slash North American self-help writers. His book is a breath of modern sense with some Old World flair.
I encourage you to consider this book. I hope you'll get it and give Bucay's very FRIENDLY voice a chance to sink in. Then, as you read it, the real "meaning of life" insights will be what you find yourself considering.
