(More customer reviews)This book turned out to be an enjoyable read about a chubby, spunky, hopeful girl determined to create a life of her own. She struggles with all the cruelties of pre-teens, the death of her beloved grandmother, the impending loss of her family as she knows it, a fat camp from hell and one dirty old man. She also enjoys the kindness of strangers, friendship and first love. Ridley captures the poignancy and pain of all these experiences and gives us a smart, sanguine little heroine.
